Your apartment has become your refuge.
You no longer have the energy, the patience, the interest
in shallow relationships that end in ache.
Before you surrender to sleep,
the echoes of everyone you had to forget
creep into your bed.

‘How much more of this can I take?’
you ask your soul.

It knowingly responds,
‘Patience.
The prettiest sunrises reveal themselves
after the darkest nights.’
