You’re a nasty habit
I’ve almost kicked,
a cruel disease
I’ve almost cured,
a shabby book
I’ve almost finished,
a deep scar
that’s almost healed.

I wait impatiently
for the inevitable

  1. Noor, when you say a ‘shabby’ book do you mean to describe its content or its cover? The other comparisons suggest things that are insidious–disease, addiction, deep tissue wounds. Perhaps you intend to include a comparison that suggests something more shallow, like the cover of a book rather than its content. Now my brain is obsessing on finding a word to describe a book that means insidious!
